Living in the “Now” Moment

We have all heard to “Be Here Now” and to “live in the moment”. To live in the now moment is to be in a constant state of the flow of creation energy. The present moment is all that ever exists. Time is a man made construct. In truth, the present, past and future exists within this single moment. All the power of the Universe exists in this moment and we have access to that energy when we are fully present in the moment.

Anxiety is created when our mind gets pulled into a fearful state about what’s going to happen in the future. The anxiety exists because we move out of the present moment and become ungrounded.

Allow me to share a story… Imagine that you are standing at the edge of a raging river at night and there are 10 stepping stones across the river. You are carrying a lantern. You come to the first stepping stone and the light of the lantern illuminates the path forward, you can see exactly where the next step is and you step carefully onto the stone and you are safe. From the first stone, the lantern lights up the second stepping stone and you step onto that next stone. You are safe. You can cross the entire river safely in this way, one step at a time. Anxiety happens when you are on the second stone and you’re worrying about how you are going to cross the eighth stone. Would you try to step from the second stone to the eighth stone in one step? No, your legs aren’t that long and if you tried to do it you would fall in the river and get washed away. You are not on the eighth stone yet, so why worry about that step? You are not there, you are here on the first step. All you have to do is focus on the present moment and the next step will arrive. The lantern represents the light of the Divine, illuminating your path forward. You are never alone on your journey.

Everything that needs to be done can be broken down into manageable steps. Apply your efforts every day, and it will be completed over time. Your task is to continually bring yourself back into the present moment with your breath and your awareness and choose to feel whatever you desire. If you want to feel joy, choose to feel joy in this moment. If something painful happened, and you want to feel sad to honor that part of you that is grieving, then you choose to feel the sorrow fully. Whatever arises, allow yourself to experience it fully in the now moment.

The practice is to connect with your breath and bring all of your energy and your awareness into this moment right here and now.
