The Soul Knows Great Love

Each February I write about love.  This year I want to quote Kahlil Gibran’s,  The Prophet.
“And now you ask in your heart, ‘How shall we distinguish that which is good in pleasure from that which is not good?’ Go to your fields and your gardens, and you shall learn that it is the pleasure of the bee to gather honey of the flower, but it is also the pleasure of the flower to yield its honey to the bee. For to the bee a flower is a fountain of life, and to the flower the bee is a messenger of love, and to both, bee and flower, the giving and the receiving of pleasure is a need and an ecstasy.”

We come here to planet earth to walk ourselves back to love.  We come here to learn to love ourselves with the same force and light that the Creator loves us. How many of us loves our own Self unconditionally?  It is when we can love ourselves fully, that we can love the other fully.
Love is our greatest teacher.  I have a friend I’ve known since childhood and over the 40 years we’ve known each other, we’ve grown apart as we’ve recognized our differences.  We call each other once a year to wish the other Happy Birthday or send a Christmas card to the family.  Recently this friend became very ill and was close to dying.  She is still undergoing treatment for a serious condition. I found that as I spoke to her on the phone, all the love that I ever felt for her was right there in my heart stronger than ever, that it was my mind that had laid the love dormant.  But the heart knows great love of all our close connections, the heart does not forget. And in the darkest moments, the heart will recall this great love and willingly bestow it to the one who calls for it. For we are here to love one another, to give to one another and to help one another.
When my parents passed (3 years apart), after they left, all I could feel was the immense love I had for them.  Which begs the question, Why does it take death to make us realize how much we love someone?  When we get to the edge of life, the veil,  on which the other side is death, we arrive at the place of our soul, our spirit.  All the cast of people who come in and out of our lives or inhabit the role of main characters in our lives are souls who deeply love us as we love them.  On the earth plane, we engage in the dramas, we feel the pain of betrayal, of rejection of abandonment and we allow these perceived hurts to build walls in our hearts, to bring separation that we nurture with misaligned thoughts.
It is when we are fully living from our soul that we can feel that love that exists, eternally.  Each of these actors are playing a specific role in our lives to awaken us to the remembrance that there is only love.  It is our work to remove the blocks the mind creates to giving and receiving that love. You will find that all lessons require an internal shift of perception and understanding in order to move forward.  To seek to change the externals is fruitless, only what we can change on the inside will yield the desired outcome.
It all comes back to love.  There is only love.  Love is all there is.  These are all phrases we have heard before, but it is in those precious moments at the door of death or at the witness to birth that we have the clarity of the heart sounding louder than the thoughts of the mind to know these words to be TRUE.
